Graphic Design- Shani Hadashi

Macho Man is a dance and performance piece for three dancers inside an arena- at times a battlefield, at times a circle of support. Through dance, text, singing, and objects, they move through different images and relationships that depict the subjective and complex experience of women in a world run by men. A world that exploits women's bodies and freedom as tools in a war that is not their own.

As a unifying motif in her works, the creator confronts the need to make visible, to present, and to tell- using diverse artistic tools- what it feels like to be a woman in such a world. The piece offers space for sympathy and reflection but also for empathy and catharsis, all while attempting to provide a path to healing after the turbulent events we have all endured.

Macho Man looks into the eyes and the presence of its performers with a deep and direct gaze- human and complex. With sensitivity and shared destiny, they embark on a journey through the spectrum of human emotions, the basic need for autonomy, and the desire to simply be who they are- without fear or judgment.

Macho Man is at times frightening, at times painful, at times humorous, and at times moving. It is a work that demands us to bravely face the good, the bad, and the ugly that exist within power dynamics, and the universal human longing that connects us all- love.

The performance contains a moment of partial nudity.

"This is an example of an excellent contemporary dance, in which excellent choreography and excellent performance provide a balanced and precise combination between drama and dance"

Yolanda Vazquez \ La Escena
